The United Nations Organization defines violence against women as “any act of violence based on belonging to the female sex that has or may result in physical harm or suffering, sexual or psychological treatment for women, as well as threats of such acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether they occur in public or private life. (UN, 1995).

This work focuses on analyzing psychological violence towards Mexican women; The survey “Encuesta Nacional sobre la Dinámica de las Relaciones en los Hogares” (ENDIREH) , translated as “National Survey on the Dynamics of Relationships in Households” and generated by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), is the only survey in Mexico that reports the situation of violence against Mexican women.

ENDIREH offers information on the experiences of physical, economic, sexual, and psychological violence that women aged 15 and over have faced in their family, education, work experience, community, and relation spheres. This survey also presents data on the aggressors and the places where the attacks occurred, as well as additional variables that allow the analysis of violence against women in Mexico. This works performs an analysis of ENDIREH results on its 2021 publication.

Since this work focuses on understanding emotional violence, it also collects information from Twitter to exemplify some of the violent scenarios described on the survey. The objective is to find texts examples of emotional violence, on the mentioned social media, to analyze how frequently those scenarios occur to Mexican women.
